BB Cartridge & Cup Technical Notes
- 'Phil' 68mm BB cartridges are compatible with 68mm, 70m, 73mm shells
- Cartridges for 68mm shells have approximately 2.5mm extending from both sides of the shell, allowing approximately +/-2.5mm of fine tuning for chainline adjustment
- The 68mm cartridge when used in a 73mm shell will allow he rings to be flush with shell while maintaining an adjustable chainline
- British and Italian anodised alloy cups are Teflon impregnated providing compatibility with aluminum and titanium BB shells
- Damaged British threads may be tapped to Italian threading on the damaged side only and allow use of a combination of British & Italian cups
- On tour one tool is practical, but for ease of installation two tools speed up install and alignment process
- 'Phil' Wood BB cups MUST BE installed with supplied 'Phil" thread/sleeve retaining compound(TSRB00 or equilvaent} when used in steel, aluminum and titanium bottom bracket shells
BB Cartridge & Cup Customer Service Notes
- Since Phil Wood BB installation tools are not always readily available, CTA will supply a set of "consumer" tools with the purchase of the BB and cups. The set of tools is paid for when the order is placed. You can use the tools to install your bottom bracket and when you return the tools your money is cheerfuly refunded. Many riders will choose to keep one for their bike tool kit, which is fine also.
- Please be sure of the length of BB spindle you need. If you have questions, contact us and we will be able to advise you on the correct length BB you need. Since we offer a 30 day unconditional satisfaction warranty on Phil Wood BB's and cups, if you find yourself with the wrong length BB, you are more than welcome to return the BB for the correct size. But we prefer to fit the proper BB the first time!!
